Angarano Presents at SUNY PPAA Summer Conference in Rochester, NY
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Susanne Angarano presented “Designing Spaces for the Whole Student” at the 2023 SUNY PPAA/NYAPPA Summer Conference in Rochester, New York. Angarano, Principal / Senior Interior Designer, examined case studies of three separate renovation projects: Schine Student Center at Syracuse University, Silverman Hall at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and the Campus Center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The presentation discussed how each project “calls for enhanced environments to foster collaboration, discovery, and socially dynamic and diverse spaces.” These spaces are designed for the whole student and offer insight into four main learning objectives.
Explore trends in higher education for student resources and environments to support the whole student.
Examine opportunities for cross-disciplinary application of knowledge by creating safe zones for neurodiversity and for students to experience life.
Use processes of program deep dive to unearth synergies between varied and seemingly opposing programs.
Execute strategies to foster discovery and innovation on campus through space in a way that embraces the diverse and intellectual nature of the students.
The session explored the emerging and evolving needs of today’s students, the meaning of the Whole Student, and the role of stakeholder engagement in executing spaces to support these evolving needs. The presentation was a continuation of Angarano’s previous appearance at 2023 SUNY/PPAA & NYAPPA’s Winter Conference.
