Catherine Wolfe Pens "Holistic Understanding that Builds Agency after Project Completion" for NYSCOSS Councilgram
Catherine Wolfe, Associate Principal and an Accredited Learning Environment Planner, wrote “Capital Improvement Projects: Holistic Understanding that Builds Agency after Project Completion” for the May issue of The New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS) Councilgram.
"If we are only talking about the buildings when we approach capital improvement projects, then we are having the wrong conversation. The design of buildings alone cannot result in fulfilling a district’s vision or achieving educational goals and objectives. Holistic understanding on who the district is, what they are trying to achieve, and how they plan to achieve it is critical to the work that we do in ensuring that the spaces for learning we create will be the conditions for their success. This work allows the key decision makers in the district to get a better understanding of the needs, allows the district’s community to collectively co-create the initiatives, and ultimately builds agency in people to actively work towards the change they are hoping to see.”
