Harpursville CSD Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate Capital Project Completion
The Harpursville Central School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Jr./Sr. High School Courtyard on Wednesday, September 22 to celebrate the completion of their recent capital project.
Approved by District voters in February 2019, the $10.65 million Capital Project addressed three main concepts: safety, security, and pride. “We want to make sure that we don’t just work to meet our needs today but that we are future- minded as well. That we are always thinking about where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. The enhancements through this project absolutely have an eye towards the future,” said Michael Rullo, Superintendent, during the ceremony.
Some of the high priority needs pinpointed to maintain safe and secure learning environments and a community resource for students and families included:
Security Upgrades (Districtwide)
Ventilation and Airflow Improvements (Districtwide)
Significant Select Roof Replacements (Districtwide)
Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up Improvements (W.A.O. Elementary)
Main Entrance & Courtyard Enhancements (Jr./Sr. High School): New secure vestibule, new main office, new 2-story lobby with flex space, and new school resource officer office
Auditorium Renovations (Jr./Sr. High School): Air conditioning, new seating, lighting and sound system replacements, and other improvements
Gymnasium Renovations (Jr./Sr. High School)
To explain the hexagonal pattern and design of the courtyard paver stones at the Jr./Sr. High School, Rullo said, “It’s saying to you - know where you are. You are coming into the Hornets hive. We want to have pride of place here in Harpursville.” The new main entrance enhancements were intentional with the façade inset meant to invite and draw the Harpursville community in.
