Binghamton University Science IV Featured in Metal Construction News Article
The July 2024 issue of Metal Construction News features the transformation of Binghamton University’s Science IV designed by Ashley McGraw Architects. The article, “Creating dynamic learning spaces: Modernizing schools with ACM panels” features case studies on how aluminum composite material (ACM) panels can play a crucial role in creating spaces that encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
The Science IV renovation and deep energy retrofit at Binghamton University re-envisioned the building as a new campus icon that welcomes visitors to the campus and sciences complex, in a modern, cohesive, and energy-efficient way. Lightness and transparency were used to achieve an enhanced connection to the outdoors and through flexible spatial relationships, the Science IV facility fosters innovation among its student and faculty inhabitants. In the article, Jason Evans, Associate Principal, explained the design intent, “The Science IV Building has undergone a complete metamorphosis, and we are honored to have had a role in its stunning outcome. [The use of ACM panels] made it possible for us to accomplish our unique design intent and deliver results we are proud of, and that has been recognized by our peers in the New York architect community.”
The Science IV renovation has received the New York State Excelsior Award -Honor Award - (Represents the Highest Level of Achievement) as well as an Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
