Jamesville-Dewitt CSD Celebrates the Completion of the Renovated Lyndon Field Softball Complex
The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District celebrated the completion of the renovated Lyndon Field softball complex on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The renovated spaces include new dugouts, fencing, bleachers, and an improved batting cage. The event featured remarks from Superintendent Peter Smith, Board of Education President Joe Gross, Athletic Director Fred Wheeler, and members of the Varsity Softball team. The event concluded with a ribbon cutting and ceremonial first pitch, marking the start of the varsity’s home opener.
This upgraded complex will benefit all softball players in the district and community and signifies a significant investment in the future of the sport at Jamesville-DeWitt. Frederick Wheeler, Director of Health, PE, Nurses, and Athletics at J-D CSD explained: “This new ball field and rededication of making things look this nice also goes beyond just our High School; our J-D Little League (JDLL Minors and Majors divisions) as well will have an opportunity to play on this field. So, kids will grow and have a successful softball season going forward.”
This renovation was included in phase 2 of the district’s $33 million 2019 Capital Project. The Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Softball team along with dedicated coaches, families, and community members also helped raise over $64,000 for the project. They presented the check to the Board of Education in April 2023.
