Early Childhood Education Center. Clemson University
Clemson University was the only top-twenty public University in the country without a child development center until 2018 when we were selected to team with South Carolina-based Sherman Construction and build a new world-class facility.
The 14,700 SF center opened in 2020 and provides early care and education to families of Clemson faculty, staff, and graduate students.
Marking an important Campus Gateway, this building is an essential part of the development of the Ravenel Campus area and a key element in Clemson’s future growth. Our architect’s design was selected because of its creative use of the site, dynamic architectural composition, and, above all, the way it exceeded expectations in creating great places for children and families.
The building welcomes over 100 children from infants to pre-kindergarten and works closely with the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences as well as other departments throughout the University. The project features a vast outdoor natural play area that is easily accessible for children, including an orchard zone and a discovery garden. It also has observation rooms, generous classrooms, and spaces for STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) activities.
